Get the most out of your BLF membership – tune in to our online surgeries
Once a month, the British Lung Foundation offers 'online surgeries' free to our members. It's a chance to learn more about various lung conditions, how to manage them and gather some helpful tips.
This is just one of the benefits of joining the BLF. You can find out more about the members-only resources we can offer here.
What is an online surgery?
Also called a webinar, it’s an online presentation from an expert on a relevant respiratory topic that you can tune in to and watch from the comfort of your own computer. These monthly events are offered free and exclusively to members of the BLF, giving participants a unique opportunity to find out more about particular topics of interest from an expert.
We’ve covered such topics such as pneumonia, bronchiectasis and exercising with a lung condition. During the presentation you can type in questions that the expert host will answer at the end of their presentation.
These questions are viewed only by the host and presenter, and will always be treated anonymously. While the surgery is available online following the event, as a member you have the added benefit of being able to ask questions directly to our expert host.
“Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the webinar. It was a rare opportunity to hear a talk on bronchiectasis and wonderful to have been able to get involved from the comfort of home! Keep up the good work BLF”
How to take part
Members are notified in advance of the next online surgery topic, or you can check what’s coming up right here. As the service is a membership benefit you will need your membership number ready when you sign up. Once you're registered you will receive a confirmation email containing the link to the online surgery, and explaining what to do on the day.
If you have any questions you would like to ask our presenter in advance you can do so here.
Then you will be able to join a few minutes before it starts, ready to watch and hear (remembering to switch on your speakers or headphones!) the presentation, and ask any questions you may have.
If you don’t know your membership number, please contact our membership team on 020 7688 5555 or membership@blf.uk.org.
After the surgery finishes, there's a feedback form where you can tell us what you thought and suggest other topics you would like to see presented.
020 7688 5613, or email webinar@blf.org.uk.
“One cannot fail to be better informed after you have finished. Thank you”
Good to know
Our online surgeries are presented by a named and trusted individual on behalf of the BLF. For this reason, and because of the ‘live’ nature of the content, they are not included in the scope of the BLF’s Information Standard certification. However, the production of online surgeries does follow the principles of the Information Standard. The surgeries are relevant to patients and carers, based on the most up to date information and evidence, and are presented by experts. For more information about the Information Standard and the BLF’s online surgeries, please contact us.
