User representatives are patients and carers who help improve treatment and care for everyone with a lung condition by sitting on NHS respiratory boards, networks and patient groups.

Top tips

We’ve put these tips together from your fellow user reps. If you have any other advice, please get in touch and let us know!

  • Don’t hesitate to ask for explanations

If forum members are using acronyms you’re not familiar with or you aren't sure what they’re talking about, ask for clarification. You can't do your job properly if you don't know what’s being said.

  • Be persistent

You have been asked to be part of the health forum to give your opinion and to represent a group of people. Don’t be afraid to make sure you’re heard. Don’t be backward with putting your views forward!

  • Be patient

It might take a little while to get used to the language and the flow of the meetings, but don’t give up after the first try. As you see here, there are lots of resources available to help you.

Web community

The BLF online community is an internet forum for everyone affected by lung conditions including patients, carers, family and friends.
