Scotland

"Scotland has some of the best respiratory medics anywhere in the world and we often lead the way in public health initiatives like the ban on smoking in public places.  But our industrial history and continued high levels of smoking mean that we have some of the highest rates of lung disease anywhere in the world.  So much has been achieved in recent years and our aim must be to give Scotland’s future generation the chance to live with clean air, healthy lungs and world-class medical services.  We owe it to ourselves and we owe it to them.  Remember, if you need our help, we’re always here for you.  And if you can help us, we’d love to hear from you.  We work best when we all work together."

How we can help you

We provide support and advice to all those affected by, or interested in lung conditions.

There are currently 21 Breathe Easy Groups in Scotland, which make up our local support network. They provide a community of friends who understand what it’s like to live with a lung condition. Some groups actively campaign for the improvement of services, others like to fundraise and some prefer to focus on a catch up over a cup of tea. Groups meet monthly to share experiences and listen to guest speakers. Everyone is welcome.

At the British Lung Foundation we’re also keen to protect the lung health of future generations. We do this by lobbying the Governments and running education programmes such as our current ‘Take Five & Stay Alive’ campaign.

How you can help us

We want to continue our good work, but we can’t do it alone. The British Lung Foundation has launched a volunteer project to ensure we are fully supporting those who donate their time and effort to the charity.

There are many ways in which you can get involved, such as supporting a local Breathe Easy group, helping out with a fundraising event, or volunteering in one of our local offices. If you’d like to help or take part, please  call 0141 248 0050 for further details.
