Resources and support for exercise instructors

Here are some of the ways we can help you.

Find out more about lung conditions

If you’re interested in finding out more about lung conditions in general, we recommend having a look at our information on COPD and other lung conditions. You can also read stories from people living with a lung condition being active.

Get your exercise class listed

Get your exercise class listed on our support in your area page. Please get in touch with your details and we will add your class.

Order our health information

We produce a range of health information  to help people living with a lung condition manage their condition. The following resources have been designed to help people to become and stay active and we’d encourage you to share these with the people you work with:

  • Keep Active booklet. This gives information on how to get started including how to stay safe and manage breathlessness, different activities to try and how to stay motivated by recognising and overcoming barriers and setting goals. There’s also a 12 week activity diary which can be downloaded online.
  • Stay active, stay well exercise video. This home exercise video is available online or as a DVD. It has step-by-step aerobic and strength exercises delivered at different exercise levels, as well as a warm up and cool down.
  • Exercise handbook. This includes different aerobic and strength exercises which can be done at home, as well as an exercise diary and daily walking record to track progress.

These resources are written by leading respiratory health professionals and are a great companion to your classes. You might find that the video and handbook help the people you work with to stay active in between your classes too.

You can order the resources from our online shop (Note there is a small charge for the exercise handbook but our other resources are free).

Learn about Active Steps

You might find that people find it hard to stay engaged with an exercise programme. For those that need increased support, you can signpost them to Active Steps, our 1:1 behavior change service to support inactive people with a lung condition to become and stay active over 12 months.

We are Undefeatable

Together with 14 of the leading health and social care charities, we have launched We Are Undefeatable, a national campaign to support the 15 million people who live with one or more long-term health conditions.
