He was diagnosed with the lung condition idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), and given a life expectancy of just three to five years. Golden marriage couple, Ann and Peter both have lung disease. Through an understanding that comes from half-a-century of marriage, they care, encourage and support each other. Peter has severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Ann has idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).
Natalie first realised something was wrong when she became out of breath walking up Tube station stairs. She was diagnosed with the lung condition, sarcoidosis. It had a huge impact on her life. Unable to commute because of severe breathlessness, she was forced to leave her job in private banking in the city. The BLF’s Keep Active Keep Well programme has since taught Natalie how to manage her breathing. This has improved her lung health, and helped her adjust to living with the condition.

Janet wonders if passive smoking contributed to her condition. She worked in a bar for 10 years, and also had a job as a cashier, employed in a small office, where colleagues smoked.
