Active Steps is a free service which provides you with support over 12 months to become and stay active. Active Steps is funded by Sport England and the National Lottery.
I saw about Active Steps online and decided to give the programme a go. After a few weeks I found I was beginning to improve in many ways. The programme made me think of goals and I’ve found myself working towards achieving those goals every day. How we'll support you
We’ll support you by giving you:
- regular calls to discuss how you can become more active and how we can help you together
- an information pack including an activity diary, so you can track your activities and your progress
- regular newsletters with useful tips and inspirational stories of other people with lung conditions who have benefitted from being active
- information about ways to become active in your local area
- access to other members of our helpline team to support your wider needs, such as access to financial benefits
Who can use the service?
We offer this service to anybody with a lung condition who isn’t currently active and would like support to become active. Currently, due to funding restrictions, Active Steps is only available to people living in England. We hope to bring the service to other places in the UK in the future.
Please note that the support we offer is not intended to replace advice from a GP, consultant, nurse or other health care professional.
How do you sign up?
If you’ve been diagnosed with a lung condition and are not currently active you can refer yourself directly to the service. The Active Steps team will give you a call to explain the service in more detail and check that it’s appropriate for you.

Meet Claire and Abi, who are looking forward to working with you and helping you get more active on your 12 month journey.
Claire has vast experience of working together with people to make healthier lifestyle choices, helping them to make changes to their lifestyle by listening to the challenges they have faced. She has a real passion for promoting positive health and wellbeing by empowering people to get started and supporting them to continue with their lifestyle changes.
With a background in physical activity, health and wellbeing, Abi brings with her a person centred approach to help support you in making healthier lifestyle choices. By listening to the challenges you face and empowering you to takes the steps you need to become more active, Abi will be there to support you every step of the way.
