What is a clean air champion?

Across the UK, levels of air pollution are at unsafe and illegal levels. It’s time to demand change, and we need health care professionals to help.

The problem: air pollution

Air pollution is a serious problem in the UK. It is linked to tens of thousands of early deaths each year, and its effects have a significant impact on people living with a lung condition and those who are more vulnerable such as children and older people.

Dirty air can mean you’re more likely to have an asthma attack. Dirty air can damage children’s lung growth. Dirty air is a public health crisis. People who work in health care know this better than anyone else.

But it doesn’t have to be this way.

While there are signs things are moving in the right direction — and we now know the direction we need to move in as a country to clean up our air — there’s more to be done.

That’s where you come in.

As a health care professional, we need you to campaign for change. Urgently.

Whether it’s organising an information event at work or writing to your MP and calling for world-leading legislation, you, as a health care professional, hold the key in the fight against air pollution.
