Life changing rehab for people living with lung disease – help us spread the word

We are campaigning for increased awareness of, and access to, pulmonary rehabilitation.

Pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) is one of the most effective treatments for people living with lung conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and can also be of benefit for people living with pulmonary fibrosis and bronchiectasis.

In fact, PR is proven to help improve exercise capacity and reduce breathlessness. People who complete PR can walk further and feel less breathless doing day-to-day activities, and it helps people manage their condition and enjoy a better quality of life. There’s also evidence that it reduces levels of anxiety and depression and the risk of ending up in hospital.

“You’ve got to treat pulmonary rehab as a medication”. It’s a treatment.”

- Ron, 60, living with IPF. Read his story.

But some people who would benefit aren't eligible for NHS treatment or can't access PR. Waiting times for starting the treatment are also getting increasingly longer. We don’t think this is fair.

“In 2010, the practice nurse referred me to a pulmonary rehabilitation course. The waiting list was two years! I really enjoyed going on the course when it started.”

- Pauline, 72 living with COPD. Read her story.

We could use your help.
