As the only UK charity for people affected by all lung and respiratory diseases – from mild asthma through to lung cancer – Asthma UK and British Lung Foundation Partnership is here for every one of them. Asthma UK and British Lung Foundation merged to form the Partnership at the end of 2019, making this an exciting time to join the team as we work to increase our impact and support for those with and affected by respiratory diseases. Where we’re based

We have five offices in the UK. Our head office is located in Aldgate, London, just a short walk from Aldgate, Aldgate East and Tower Hill tube stations.

Our other London office is in the heart of Clerkenwell, just 10 minutes’ walk from Angel, Farringdon, Barbican and Old Street stations.

We also have offices in Scotland and Wales to support the organisation across the UK. Last but certainly not least, Liverpool is the home of our helpline office, where our team of specialist nurses and advisors offer life-changing support to thousands of callers each year.

Fundraising & Events Admin Assistant  

As a recently merged organisation we’re still negotiating different systems and processes and finding the best ways to work efficiently and effectively. You’ll play a key role in ensuring our supporters continue to receive the best care possible by ensuring all admin work runs smoothly so that our fundraising teams can focus on delivering bespoke donor care and income generation.

You will support the processing of income, general data entry and liaise with external agencies and colleagues in other parts of the charity.  You’ll also be supporter care focused, thanking donors, responding to enquiries as well as supporter check in calls. You will have excellent attention to detail, customer service skills, strong IT skills and some experience of communicating with a range of stakeholders.  You will be organised, a good communicator and a team player.

Deputy Head of Corporate Partnership 

Join our dynamic and fast paced Corporate Partnerships team in a newly created role of Deputy Head of Corporate Partnerships. Reporting to the Head of High Value Partnerships, your role will be to lead and manage our Corporate Partnerships Team. Ensuring that the team successfully win new Corporate partnerships that support our core and programmatic priorities, maximising income through multi-year, strategic relationships. This role will also be personally responsible for securing and managing our key strategic Corporate relationships.

Corporate Partnership Officer

Sporting & Events Senior Officer 

An opportunity has arisen to join our talented and passionate sporting and events team. Your role will be responsible for delivering some of our largest core events within our dynamic and successful sporting events calendar, for example Great North Run, London Marathon, London Landmarks, plus our own virtual events. It is a varied and busy role that includes the meticulous planning, developing, and marketing for your events whilst delivering excellent and dedicated supporter care to event participants. You’ll be comfortable juggling tasks and priorities, as well as working towards agreed measurable objectives.

This role will suit you if you like being organised, working in a fast-paced environment, and value working as part of a team to get things done. Regional Fundraiser (Bristol, Bath & Cardiff)   

We’re setting an ambitious 5-year strategy where Community Fundraising will play a key role in mobilising local communities to become our ambassadors. Our work supports all those currently affected by lung disease, as well as the millions in the UK at risk from the threats of air pollution and Long Covid too, and it’s only through galvanising local support that we can really make ourselves heard. Starting with the South West, we want to build our local presence through providing exceptional supporter care in the region, whilst also recruiting and motivating committed and engaged volunteer fundraisers to take our cause to their networks.

Your in-depth local knowledge, matched with your exceptional communication and relationship management skills will ensure that Asthma UK and the British Lung Foundation’s message reaches individuals, local corporates, schools and community groups alike. Bringing together local fundraising, campaigning and volunteering, you’ll be responsible for communicating the need for support to local communities, as well as signposting them to our support and health advice services and ensuring that they feel valued and their efforts are amplified in their local area through local press coverage and publicity.

As this is our first regional role, we’re looking for someone to really make this role their own and make recommendations for how we can improve and optimise the way in which we motivate and recruit our supporters and volunteers. You’ll be experienced in establishing and developing relationships with a wide range of diverse stakeholders, with excellent organisational and time management skills as well as the ability to prioritise. Initial recruitment is for 12 months with scope to extend the contract and duplicate the role across the UK dependent on the impact and innovation demonstrated by the ideal candidate.

Location: Homebased in the South West.
Salary: £27,000 - £30,000 per annum

Executive Assistant to Director of Research & Innovation  

Join our small, fast paced Research & Innovation Directorate as the Executive Assistant to the Director of Research & Innovation.  Reporting to the Director of Research & Innovation, your role will be to guarantee the smooth running of the directorate to enable the Research & Innovation Directorate to deliver its strategic objectives in the most impactful way.

You will personally support the Director of Research & Innovation via diary co-ordination and administrative assistance whilst also providing expert oversight of the directorate’s day-to-day activities and organising planning, budgeting and reporting. You will also coordinate our new national Research & Innovation consultancy service to maximise research impact and grow income.  You’ll be the main point of contact for the Research & Innovation Directorate and liaise with many other Executive Assistants and Directorates.

Senior Policy & Public Affairs Officer - Air Quality 

An opportunity has arisen to lead a policy influencing programme on clean air, around the COP26 climate change talks. This is a fantastic new role that will be responsible for leading the largest multi-channel COP26 storytelling campaign on air pollution to date, alongside our Senior storytelling and communications officer. You will play a leading role in our air quality team at Asthma UK-British Lung Foundation, representing the charity in the media and with high-level political stakeholders.

We are looking for someone who has experience successfully influencing policy and working with politicians to make things happen. You will be an enthusiastic self-starter who is able to manage complex projects and balance priorities in a fast-paced policy environment. You will have an excellent understand and proven track record of political influencing, as well as expertise in environment and/or health policy.

You’ll be working alongside other charities, think tanks and industry groups to persuade the UK government to back bolder clean air laws and policies that will safeguard millions of people from air pollution for years to come.

Supporter Care Officer

Join our small and fast paced Supporter Care Team as a Supporter Care Officer.  Reporting to the Supporter Care Manager, your role will be to deliver excellent service to supporters, people with lung conditions, and health care professionals, providing them with information about the charity, supporting them with queries about donations, and being the first point of contact many will have with us. You will also work with other fundraising teams to ensure the highest standards of supporter contact and administration are being upheld.

Alongside providing high quality supporter care, you will support the processing of income, general data entry and liaise with external agencies and colleagues in other parts of the charity.  You’ll be an expert user of our Charity CRM, assisting colleagues and promoting its consistent use across the organisation.

You will have excellent customer service skills, excellent IT skills and some experience of charity fundraising & charity CRMs.  You will be organised, self-motivated, a good communicator and a team player.

You will interact with colleagues at all levels across the organisation and have a great opportunity to develop your customer service skillset, as well as building new knowledge on other areas of fundraising, such as high value partnerships, legacies, and in-memory giving.  This is a varied role and one which provides an excellent introduction to many fundraising streams.

Volunteer Link Coordinator   

This is a fantastic opportunity to pilot a new model of engagement for the organisation. Concentrating on the North East, you’ll be at the forefront of recruiting and mobilising committed, motivated volunteers, so that they can provide invaluable peer to peer support in their communities. Alongside that, you’ll give these groups the tools and knowledge to fundraise and raise awareness of our work to ensure that they are not just sustainable but can continue to grow to the meet the need. An excellent communicator, you’ll bring together a variety of stakeholders, from service providers and healthcare professionals, to external support organisations and key volunteers to make a positive impact on lung health in the area.

You’ll play a key role in bringing together the work of our fundraising and services directorates, working across teams to demonstrate the value of creating a sustainable support model for our beneficiaries. We’re looking for someone to really make this role their own and make recommendations for how we can improve and optimise the way in which we motivate and recruit our volunteers. You’ll be experienced in establishing and developing relationships with a wide range of diverse stakeholders, with excellent communication and time management skills as well as the ability to prioritise. Initial recruitment is for 12 months with scope to extend the contract to 3 years dependent on the impact and innovation demonstrated by the ideal candidate. 

Location: North East England (home based for the time being with access to an office space).
Salary: £26,000 - £28,000 FTE (28 hours per week)

Policy & Public Affairs Officer (Northern Ireland)   

We are looking for a new Policy and Public Affairs Officer to raise awareness of lung conditions with politicians and civil servants and shape public policy.

Working closely with the Head of Devolved Nations and Communications Officer you will be responsible for engaging with politicians, responding to consultations and looking for opportunities to raise awareness of the challenges that people living with lung conditions face.

The ideal candidate will have experience of working in the Northern Ireland Assembly, and of developing policies and campaigns. You will be assertive, creative and a good self-motivator. You will possess strong writing, communication and organisational skills and an ability to plan and develop successful influencing campaigns.

Location: Home based within commutable distance from Stormont.
Salary: £27,000 - £29,000 per annum dependant on experience
Contract: 21 months Fixed term contract

Press and Campaigns Manager 

An opportunity has arisen to join our Taskforce for Lung Health secretariat team. Reporting to the Senior Policy and Project Manager for the Taskforce, your role will be to raise awareness of the priorities of the Taskforce by planning and delivering our media strategy.  This is a great opportunity for a media expert who is looking to take the next step in their career.

Asthma UK and the British Lung Foundation jointly provide secretariat support to the Taskforce for Lung Health. The Taskforce is the largest ever coalition of over 30 organisations and individuals with an interest in respiratory health. At the end of 2018 we published our Five Year Plan making recommendations to prevent more people from developing lung disease, and to transform the care of people living with lung disease.

We are looking for a Press and Campaigns Manager to help the Taskforce turn this plan into a reality. This role will work with the Taskforce secretariat as well as Taskforce members to shape and deliver our media work, through generating media coverage, sharing patient stories and providing oversight of our external communications. Your work will convince both the public and decision makers to support the changes we need to see to improve outcomes for people affected by lung disease.

Salary: £36,000 per annum dependant on experience
