Climbing Our Everest together
Claire, from our events team, introduces our new virtual walking event, Our Everest. Brand new for 2021, we are all climbing this mountain together!
2020 has been an extraordinary year! As a result we have a massive mountain to climb to continue providing essential services to those who need us more than ever.
Introducing Our Everest
In January 2021 we're challenging you, our wonderful supporters, to recreate the iconic Everest Base Camp Trek. This means walking 130km over the course of one month. You can choose where and how you reach your distance, and will be joined by hundred of virtual teammates from all across the country. Hundreds of people have signed up already!
Join us today and help us climb this mountain.
We're proud to be joining forces with our sister charity, Asthma UK for this exciting virtual challenge. Together, we're working to change the lives of everyone affected by a lung condition and put up a fight for the 1 in 5 people with lung disease in the UK.
I recently caught up with one of our recent ‘recruits’ for the Our Everest Challenge, Jemma. She told me why participating in this event is so important to her.
I am doing this in memory of my sister, Lisa. She passed away in July 2019, 2 weeks after her 31st birthday. It still feels very surreal to be writing that. She had familial interstitial pneumonitis, a form of lung disease and in May 2019 she contracted viral pneumonia. She spent 54 days on ECMO, a form of life support, in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, but unfortunately, they couldn’t save her. Her daughter was 3 years old at the time.
As a family it has devastated us, but I want to do everything I can to help support this charity in their efforts to help others and hopefully save someone else the pain we go through.
Inspired by Jemma? Want to get involved?
It’s free and easy to join in, all you have to do is sign up on the Our Everest website.
