Asthma + Lung UK responds as Long COVID cases hit 'grim milestone' of two million

Sarah Woolnough, CEO, responds to the latest Long COVID estimates from the ONS.

Responding to new figures from ONS that estimate two million people are living with Long COVID in the UK, Sarah Woolnough, CEO of Asthma + Lung UK, said:

“As we pass the grim milestone of two million people living with Long COVID, there is still a lack of treatments for this disabling condition, which is leaving people fighting for breath and devastating many aspects of their lives, health, work and relationships.

“Coupled with a lack of support and long wait times for specialist care, hundreds of thousands of people are turning to charities like Asthma + Lung UK, desperate for vital advice and support.

“With cases only rising the problem is not going to go away. The government must invest more to find new possible treatments to help people with this new and unpredictable condition to get their lives back on track. While we campaign for this, we will be here to continue to support the millions of people in the UK living with lung conditions including Long COVID, and would urge anyone struggling to call our helpline on 0300 222 5800 and visit our health advice: blf.org.uk/support-for-you/long-covid.”
